The first thing that struck me on playing this album is the full, expansive, bright sound. You've got Ry's own expressive slide guitar but also, among others, Flaco Jimenez giving his all on accordion, Van Dyke Parks on keyboards, Steve Douglas on sax, good ol' reliable Jim Keltner on drums, with soulful Bobby King and others on backing vocals/5(51).

After "Bop 'til You Drop, Ry Cooder offered "Borderline" as his next collection of gems. This album still usies the guys who sound like the Dixie Hummingbirds on vocals and a band that simmers or boils on command. If you don't at least chair dance while listening to this album, then you must have a disconnect between your ears and your feet/5(68).
